This is the beginning of our Little House on the Prairie Vacation 2013. June, Arry, and I are taking our first road trip together, traveling to three home-sites of Laura Ingalls Wilder.
We left Sturgeon Bay the afternoon of August 12, 2013 at about 2:50pm. June slept a couple of hours. We listened to the 3rd book in the Harry Potter Series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner from Azkaban. We are almost finished. Arry loves this series. It made the hours pass a bit quicker.
Lots of farmland, traveling west across Wisconsin. As we came closer to Minneapolis, we noticed the trees getting thicker and the landscape getting more hilly. It's been several years since I've been to Minneapolis. It is a pretty city to approach. Lots of trees for an urban area. The Mississippi is beautiful to cross. It's been a pretty drive so far & good weather--mid to upper 70s and clear, mostly. We hit a few sprinkles, but pretty short lived.
We crossed the Minnesota border at about 7:50pm. By 8:30pm we were in and settled at a hotel near the Mall of America. We're close to my friend Jamie. So, we enjoyed some dinner at an Outback Steakhouse, attached to the hotel. We plan to set out Tuesday morning to visit Pepin, WI, about and hour and a half to the south. Excited to travel along the Mississippi River today!
It is really fun going on an adventure with my 2 girls. They are lovely and excited for the travel!!
Pictures below are taken with my iPod... quality is not great. Will post some better ones soon.
Distance traveled: 322 mi
Travel time: 5.5 hours
I almost thought we wouldn't fit it all in the car. A very Griswald Vacation!!

Lots of farmland and puffy white cumulus clouds as we traveled west across WI.

Sun Shining through Clouds as we traveled west. Between Wausau and Minneapolis...

Dinner in Minneapolis. We were starvin' marvin by the time we ate!!
